Cutting Celery
Apium graveolens
This leafy herb has a bold, sweet celery flavor - much easier to grow than standard celery. It looks like a cross between Chervil and Parsley. Use as an ingredient in salad and micro mix, or try it cooked in soups, stews, and mixed vegetables.
Cutting Celery Growing Tips
Easy to grow.
Light/soil require – fertile soil in full sun. Keep well watered.
Harvest – Leaves and stalks may be harvested once the plants have become established and before flowering occurs. Cut the plants ¾ way down the stems, so that they can continue growing. 80-85 days to harvest.
Sowing Information Indoors - seed requires some light to germinate, so sow shallowly. Use individual plug containers and plant several seeds in each plug. 7-14 days to germination. Thin, if necessary, to 2-3 plants per plug. Transplant plugs into field at 6" spacing in rows 18" apart.
Outdoors - recommended planting method - direct seed in spring after last frost. Sow seeds shallowly, 30 seeds per foot, in rows 18" apart. No need to thin when direct seeded.
