Catmint, Walker's Low
Nepeta x faassenii
This plant blooms all summer and is very drought tolerant, so it is good for places where other plants won't perform. It also has a nice shape with sturdy stems, and it is not too tall. Walker's Low, unlike other mints, obediently stays put where planted. The blooms are a gorgeous bluish purple and both flowers and foliage give off a sweet aroma that is irresistible to butterflies and hummingbirds. Since it blooms all summer long and survives miserable weather quite well, it is most appreciated for its ornamental qualities. For culinary purposes, however, it is best to use the other mints.
Interesting Notes Like catnip, cat toys can be made out of this herb.
Catmint, Walker's Low Growing Tips For a fuller tidier look, prune back to about 6" each fall. Fall is also a good time to divide catmint.
